The Path of Shaykh Ahmad al-Tijani (God be pleased with him)

Clinging to the Path

From the letters of Shaykh Ahmad Sukayrij

To our brothers in the Tijani path who reside on Jabal Bu-Makhlad—may God keep you safe and under His protection. Peace, mercy, and blessings be upon you, along with the greetings and spiritual gifts that flow by the grace of our master, may God be pleased with him and grant us benefit through him.

This comes from your servant of the Tijani presence, Ahmad b. al-Hajj al-‘Ayyashi Sukayrij—may God preserve him and you in both abodes.

Know that this Muhammadan path is a divine favor granted to this community at the end of time. None is granted success in receiving it except one whom God has already destined to be among the felicitous—by the guarantee of the Prophet ﷺ to our master, may God be pleased with him. Blessed indeed is the one counted among its people; such a person has attained a tremendous triumph and reached a lofty, well-established rank.

This Tijani way is a path of gratitude: its practice is light and easy, yet its reward is immense and abundant. By God’s grace it has come as a straight and upright road; whoever walks upon it is led to the highest realms, among those upon whom God has bestowed His favor—from the Prophets and the most truthful. For this reason it stands above all other paths, its light shining across every horizon.

Yet none attains its great merit nor its vast reward unless he fulfills its conditions, preserves them carefully, and never grows lax with them until death. As for the one who takes the path and then abandons it, he loses both worlds and is overtaken by ruin without doubt—unless divine care reaches him, he repents, renews his permission, and remains constant upon the path until his final moment.

Anyone who calls people to abandon this path is a devil in human form; whoever seeks safety for his soul must not listen to such a person nor give him attention. We have been informed that certain individuals among you have arisen, inviting the brethren to litanies they have concocted—innovations of their own making—claiming to be spiritual guides, urging others to disregard the conditions of the Tijani path, and drawing people to themselves.

Beware, dear brothers, of this troublemaker. Do not mix with him, do not sit with him, do not pay heed to his false claims. And do not associate with those who associate with him, if you seek well-being for yourselves in this life and the next. Hold fast to your Muhammadan path, so that you may earn through it a great reward stored for you on the Day of Return.

We ask God Most High not to cast us away from this path, to make us among the intimate companions of our master, may God be pleased with him, to keep the people of false claims far from us, and to make us firm with the firm word in this life and in the hereafter.

May God’s blessings and peace be upon our master Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
