From the counsels of our master Aḥmad al-Tijānī—may God sanctify his secret—regarding sending blessings upon the Messenger (God bless him and give him peace):
“I advise you to guard certain times in your day when you turn your hearts sincerely toward God—whether through remembrance, reciting the Qur’an in or out of prayer, or through sending blessings upon the Messenger of God, peace and blessings be upon him. The minimum is two periods each day: morning and evening. Better still are three: morning, evening, and the depths of the night.
Let each person fill these times with as many prayers upon the Prophet as he is able. Whoever completes a total of ten thousand prayers—spread across these times—will be among the greatest of those who win unto God’s pleasure in the Life to come. And whatever is done beyond the ten thousand is even more beneficial.
If one cannot reach that number, then anything less is accepted—even down to one thousand in each time. And if that is too difficult, then five hundred in the morning and five hundred in the evening. And if that is still too difficult, then three hundred in the morning and three hundred in the evening.
Whoever remains steadfast upon this practice, as described, will attain God’s pleasure in the Hereafter. In this world, his needs will be eased, his livelihood will become smooth, and he will see the blessing of this practice in the lifting of hardships from him, and in protection from the harm of enemies and enviers. In short, he will find its blessing in all matters—religious and worldly alike. And through consistency, that blessing will spread to him, his children, and his children’s children.
If he ever commits something that harms his faith, or wipes away his good deeds, or distances him from the door of his Lord, or places him in grave spiritual danger, these prayers will stand before God as intercessors on his behalf. Through them, God will grant him a special care that protects him from such ruin and grants him forgiveness.
For sending blessings upon the Prophet is among the greatest means of drawing near to God, and one of the highest paths that lead a person to His pleasure in the Hereafter. Out of His immense love for His Beloved, peace be upon him, God has promised that for every blessing you send, He will send upon you ten. And when a person is remembered by his Lord in his hours, calamities and misfortunes in this world and the next are driven far away from him.”
